Press Release from Greenland

I generally refrain from discussing politics due to its inherently volatile and toxic nature. Engaging in meaningful discourse becomes increasingly challenging when many individuals adopt an all-or-nothing mentality. Furthermore, it is concerning that disagreement is often equated with hate, creating a toxic atmosphere that stifles open dialogue. This raises a critical question: when did differing opinions become synonymous with animosity? The decline of civility and kindness in discussions on contentious topics is alarming. I find myself hesitant to express my thoughts on this matter, fully aware that there are those who may attempt to undermine or shame me into conformity through disparagement and hostility.

First of all yes I am an American citizen. Born and raised in the South. Life was hard growing up well into adulthood. Despite that I felt that I had a good attitude when it came to being an American and what it meant to me. Freedom to live and speak is paramount to that freedom. What is not paramount is subjugating people to live the way you want them to live or put a boot on their neck when they don’t agree with you on something. We as Americans are supposed to live a peaceful, prosperous life but really if you look at how Americans have lived for the last 300 years, I’m not sure that is really what went on. There are groups that has flourished while others live paycheck to paycheck. Now a lot of us would say, take care of what is wrong with the United States and leave other countries alone. I agree with that. What I don’t agree with is trying to take over more countries just to fill some kind of ego someone has. Right now the cost of living is skyrocketing in the US not to mention world wide. How can the United States think they can afford to take over another country when they don’t even take care of it’s people much less the states and territories it already owns? I would caution anyone about jumping on this bandwagon to take over other counties or the canal! None of them belong to the United States. They are independent of the US and need to stay that way. We have no business trying to take over the world just for the fun of it.

I have come to love Greenland. I’ve lived here long enough now to be considered a “Greenlander.” What does being a Greenlander mean to me? I still have all those same freedoms I had living in the United States. I’m still an American citizen. I have not been forced or subjugated to live as a Greenlander. Instead these people have befriended me and helped me integrate into their society. The Greenlandic people have shown me grace, kindness, smiles and more. When I struggle to pronounce a greenlandic word, they smile and tell me they understood what I said and help me with pronunciation. I have learned so much from the people here! They are very kind people who believe in family, love, kindness and taking care of nature! They have a true respect for nature and have fought for generations to keep her as beautiful and pristine as possible. I have learned so much about the folklore and stories and history as well. This is truly a rich and colorful country filled with so much to see and learn. I don’t think I will ever tire of learning and seeing things about this country. I truly love what I have found here. I have found peace, insulation, and happiness! Something I never had before I moved here. I worry that if something were to occur where the people of Greenland are forced into another type of subjugation , that will be lost too! I’m happy that most are standing up for Greenland for Greenland is truly the Greenlandic people who take care of her!

Down below is a press release concerning all this discussion about Greenland. I hope you will read all of it with an open mind and try to understand what it is I’m trying to articulate. It is wrong for the United States government to pressure another country to capitulate to what they want. Yes, I miss things about my home country that I had access to. Not enough to see my country take over such a beautiful place as Greenland. There is no place in the world like Greenland!

Statement of Naalakkersuisut regarding the latest comments from President-elect Donald Trump

Greenland’s independence
Greenland belongs to the People of Greenland – and Greenland’s development and future are decided solely by its people. The fight for independence is Greenland’s own matter. Our future is ours and must be defined by us. We are aware of our rights as a People with the right to self-determination.

International cooperation
States and countries are welcome to have interests in increased cooperation with Greenland. On the road to an independent Greenland, we are open to more and constructive cooperation with our nearest neighbours. Greenland looks forward to discussing the possibilities for business cooperation, the development of Greenland’s mineral sector, including critical minerals and other relevant areas with the US.

The Trump administration
Greenland has and will continue to cooperate with the US as one of our closest partners. Greenland has had more than 80 years of defense cooperation with the US for the benefit of the security of Greenland, the US and the rest of the western world. Naalakkersuisut looks forward to establishing contact with President-elect Donald Trump and his new administration.

Changing security dynamics in the Arctic

Celebrating A Year Of 2024

Greenland Quilter NY Eve Live Graphic

I can hardly believe that 2024 is almost upon us! Time really does seem to fly by, doesn’t it? As the year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on all the wonderful experiences we’ve had. It’s a natural tendency, I suppose, to ponder what each year brings as we embrace new beginnings. This blog will mainly focus on my exciting journey with my YouTube Channel over the past year, especially as we prepare for our 12-hour live event. My channel is now 17 months old, and looking back, I realize how far I’ve come. At first, I had modest expectations and many apprehensions about my progress. It took me a while to muster the courage to dive in, but overcoming that initial fear has been a rewarding experience. Starting something new can certainly feel daunting, but it’s amazing how much you can learn along the way.

Initially, I was uncertain about the channel’s direction, but I knew I wanted to share my life in beautiful Greenland, along with my cherished “Heart Light,” Nikolaj, and my passion for creating stunning quilts. I also have a deep love for gardening, cooking, photography, and, above all, showcasing the breathtaking beauty of Greenland. I prefer to keep everything in one channel because I believe it captures the essence of my life here beautifully! Living in Greenland has inspired me to create quilts, nurturing my skills, along with expressing my passion for photography. I’ve been capturing moments since my teenage years, and now, it’s all about the stunning landscapes, icebergs, and the enchanting icecap and nature that surrounds me.

But now I have a YouTube channel, and making videos has become an exciting part of my life! My biggest hope is to share my love for Greenland and my passion for vibrant colors. Oh, how I adore color these days! I dream of creating things that are bold and bursting with brightness! I didn’t think much about it when I was in Florida, but perhaps that’s because my garden was already a colorful expression of myself. Now, living in the Arctic, I find new ways to channel that creativity.

The beauty of Greenland is overflowing with colors! The Northern Lights, stunning sunrises, and breathtaking sunsets bring splashes of color, while spring and summer showcase flowers in every hue imaginable! The icebergs and the water in the fjords shift from deep blue to brilliant turquoise. This country is so stunning, and I’m inspired to articulate that beauty! This inspiration has led me to create colorful quilts with batiks, and while I know not everyone may appreciate them, I wish they would! Our world truly needs bright, cheerful colors, positive attitudes, kindness, and smiling faces!

So let me move on to the main discussion. Down below is information that you will want to know about the 12 hour live. During the twelve hour live we will be doing a few different activities. One of them will be the giveaways. There are rules concerning the giveaways so that way I can keep the stress out of it. I will be posting below the hours the channel will be live along with how often I will be doing prize drawings as well. I am going to be offering a small sewing project that will relate to the a free block pattern from Moda Blockheads 3. The pattern name is the “Love Block” which was created by Zen Chic. The pattern is free and you will find the link down below for that. My idea is to create the block and embellish it with some design quilt piecing around it to make a mini wall hanging quilt. Viewers are welcome to download the pattern and gather up some fabric and jump in to sew the block. Since I’ll be on the live the whole 12 hours, I will be sewing a lot. I’ll be working on the love project as well as other sewing projects that I would like to get caught up on as well!

I hope that y’all will come and sit with me during the live. It will be fun sewing and chatting and celebrating. Bring whatever drinking you want to bring too because I’m fine with that too! 🙂 🙂 Thank you ahead of time for joining in on the fun!

Cotton Cuts 2025 Spring Puzzle Mystery QAL

It’s that time again to sign up for the next Cotton Cuts Puzzle Mystery! This spring, we’re diving into the Flyaway Mystery Case, and I can’t wait to join forces with both seasoned and newbie detectives. It’s gonna be a blast showing the newcomers how to crack the case! I’m super excited about all the amazing quilts we’ll whip up while figuring out this mystery! So, I thought I’d switch things up and pick three different color schemes to share on my YouTube Channel “Greenland Quilter” and in the “Greenland Quilter” Facebook group.

I even set up a poll so viewers and fellow quilters could pick what colorway suits me best. Of course, a lot of folks leaned towards my favorite colors, but they also know I’m all about color and suggested I try something a bit outside my usual vibe! It was awesome to see so many people getting involved, voting, and sharing their thoughts on why they chose a certain colorway — many thought it’d be a fun twist for me to explore something different too!

On the GQ FB Group these are the numbers:

Option 1:
12 Votes – 52%
Option 2:
3 Votes – 14%
Option 3:
8 Votes – 34%

On the GQ YT Community Tab (Note: It would not show me the number of people who voted, just % of vote)

Option 1 – 55%
Option 2 – 12%
Option 3 – 33%

Be Kind and Empathetic

Be Kind & Empathetic

There are moments when I write about topics I love or find intriguing, and other times when I delve into aspects that evoke sadness, annoyance, apprehension, or anger. I also use writing as an outlet for past hurts. Writing is my tool for navigating through these challenging times. It’s crucial for people to grasp that words can inflict genuine harm, despite the popular saying “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me,” which is entirely false!

Unfortunately, many individuals fail to realize how a single word can trigger a past experience, resulting in emotional turmoil and distress. Yes, I used the word “harm.” Most of us associate harm with physical injury. Nevertheless, we are all human beings with emotions and minds, and some of us even grapple with mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, or other severe illnesses.

Being a content creator entails dealing with unpredictability, numerous obstacles, and unexpected roadblocks. While most individuals navigate this landscape with minimal friction, others struggle but persist nonetheless. Creating compelling written content and videos while sharing our passion for various subjects demands substantial effort.

The crux of the matter is that, as creators, we invest considerable effort in producing great content and sharing our passions. Yet, there are individuals who feel compelled to tear us down! It’s puzzling why being polite, kind, and encouraging seems to have faded into the background. Instead of offering constructive criticism and support to help creators improve, some choose to use negative comments or words that, unbeknownst to them, can trigger past experiences of abuse. Some people are sensitive to negativity, and others are sensitive to words!

In light of this, one or two comments often express sentiments such as “Get over it,” “Grow a thicker skin,” and “Don’t engage in content creation if you can’t handle criticism!”

This situation is disheartening. Why should we, as content creators, have to comply with any of these demands? We don’t go around leaving the same negative comments on other creators’ platforms. We don’t direct such negative comments towards our viewers! What gives viewers the right to unleash their negative comments? If the content doesn’t resonate with them, they can simply move on.

Some individuals complain because they perceive a content creator’s voice to be unsuitable. They may find the pitch too high or low, the volume not to their liking, or the delivery overly anxious or lacking confidence. What they fail to realize is that anxiety or nervousness can affect our tone and delivery. Anxiety alone is debilitating, and when unsympathetic individuals enter the picture, the repercussions for the creator can be unpredictable!

I’m weary of the toxicity in our world. I create because I want to share what holds significance in my life. That certainly doesn’t give others the right to exploit this to feel better about themselves by belittling a creator due to their voice or manner of expression.

I recently watched a video in which a content creator shared the mistreatment they endured from viewers! Comments like “Your videos are too lengthy,” “Too much talking,” “You sound whiny,” “You seem like you’re begging,” “Not enough interaction,” “Boring unboxing videos,” “Inadequate tutorials,” or “Ignoring questions during live sessions” were endless.

Instead of tearing us down, why can’t these individuals be positive and supportive, enabling creators to evolve and improve over time? Rome wasn’t built in a day! Unless one is flawless, our content will naturally evolve and improve with time. Even some of the larger creators who watch smaller ones might contribute to this issue.

If only all of us, as human beings, were more supportive and kind to one another, the world would be a better place. Kindness and a simple smile can transform a person’s entire world! A single act of kindness, a shared smile, can make a difference to someone enduring a tough day or grappling with overwhelming anxiety. Kindness can help soothe someone’s anxiety, particularly when they are presenting a live video or writing a blog to be read later.

I would like to delve deeper into this topic, but finding the right words is a daunting task. I ultimately decided against creating a video about this because I knew it could easily spiral into a spectacle.

When Life Knocks Us Down So Close to Home

Sometimes things happen in life that comes to roost right at our back door or inside our family. Family is so important especially in this day and age and there are times when a family member falls down and struggles for years to get their footing again. Those times can make it hard on those who love them.

It’s hard to write about hard subjects that might cause discomfort for those who are reading what has been written. I’m writing about a hard subject because I think it needs to be discussed. I know I am not the only one who has family members struggling in this current atmosphere of our world. Life has been hard on so many and many want to escape not having to read about it but at the same time I’m hoping what I write about will hit home to others who feel the same as I do about this subject. Please remember I did not write this to cause anyone to feel sad or bad.

Circumstances can affect how a person handles life from the present to the future. It only takes one catastrophic event to affect the future of a person’s life. Some people take those catastrophies in stride and continue to move on in life while others struggle from the moment it started. Events can lead up to the catastrophy and then it starts to move down hill from there.

My family has been through so much over the last few decades. And for the most part all of us have moved on, however, my son has seen so much struggle since the death of his father. He has struggled to move forward while making good decisions. His decisions weren’t bad ones but it also made him a prime target for predators that live in our world. I’m not going to write about what I’m talking about because it’s too deep and mind boggling even for me to write about much less have the ability to articulate in the right way. I have trouble just understanding how people can be so cruel and mean to one another.

Ten months ago my son who is also a single dad became one of the percentages of people who are currently homeless in the United States. I never thought I’d see the day when one of my own would be homeless. This is super hard on all of us not to mention hard on me writing about it. There is such a vitriol attitude in our world towards those who have no home to live in not to mention most think that homelessness is caused from drug abuse or alcohol abuse or any other number of excuses of those who see homeless people in such a negative way. I can tell you that my son isn’t homeless because he has an addiction. It’s not that at all.

He’s homeless because of circumstances that started back to the loss of his father, along with being involved with the wrong kind of people. He has separated himself from those who were an influence on him. But he’s been struggling since then. My son suffers from depression as well as PTSD and anxiety. These issues have been untreated off and on over the years. He’s back in treatment for both while he’s raising his son. He’s a single dad raising his son. His sons mother is a drug addict! So he has custody of his son despite all the hindrances and roadblocks that had been thrown in the way of him moving forward.

Ten months has gone by while he’s been looking for work so that he could get a place to live for him and his son. Ten months!! All these so called job openings and still they don’t hire those who apply. It’s like the employers are being picky on who they hire! The longer this continues the more unemployable he becomes! People bitch and complain that those who are homeless or dependent on government help are lazy and worthless! I disagree with that notion! My son didn’t ask for this! Yes, he got involved with the wrong person but he had no idea what he was stepping into until it happened! He’s applied for hundreds of jobs and still doesn’t have one! He’s not trying to get a job that is special. His niche is unloading and loading stock on trucks. Stocking shelves and merchandising. This isn’t some special job! He’s even tried applying for washing and cleaning cars! So a lot of what is currently occurring has added to the stress of being homeless!.

Here’s a list of all the things that can happen to someone who becomes homeless: Reality check here:

1. Losing funding by using it all up to stay in a hotel to keep from having to sleep on
the street.
2. Sleeping in the car as long as one can have a car. Now keep in mind what is needed
to drive that said car.
A. Insurance, current tags, current driver’s license
1. No income, insurance lapses. Tags become invalid due to lack of insurance. (Do
you see the trend here?) Driving becomes illegal. Owner of car may take the
chance and drive anyway up until they are caught and their car is impounded.
Now you’re taking away mobility to look for a job!
2. Now they’ve lost their ability to get around to look for work, go places like
foodbank’s for food and/or other places of help.
3. Now you have them sleeping in tents and other makeshift shelters.
4. Then to add insult to injury, because of losing the car for driving it illegally they
are required to pay fines and show up in court, and if they can’t, then an arrest warrant
will happen. When they get picked up, if they are a parent, then their child goes to
foster care while parent sits in jail waiting to go before the judge. So you tell me how
any of this helps people in a time of need?

So before anyone thinks about degrading the homeless, remember someone in your family can find themselves in that same boat! Remember it could be you! People are living on the streets with stories none of us know about. I’m so thankful that there are programs out there to help but there are not enough! There isn’t enough money donated to go around to help so many who need help. So if you can afford it, please donate to homelessness programs. Every place in our country has programs that can use donations to help those in need. Donate to your local food bank! Every little bit can help someone in need. IN NEED! Think about that concept.

Currently my son and grandson are receiving help but they continue to need additional help from other avenues as well. I’m hopeful that my son will hear from a potential employer on when he might get to come to work. They are currently holding up things for a background check.

As a mom, it’s hard to see your children and grandchildren struggle in life. We as parents want all our children to thrive, be happy and live the best ever life. I know one day that will be so for my son and grandson. I have faith things will get better!

I wrote about this because I think there are so many parents watching their children struggle in life especially in this day and age and feel so helpless to help. We can only help as long as we have funds to help. Not all of us are loaded with money to support more than our own personal household. So when we run out of funds to help, that makes us feel even more inadequate. So my advice to any parent who is having this same struggle, research what is out there locally to help your homeless family member. Reach out to programs and people who host them to find out how they can help. If you can’t house them, be supportive of them until they can find housing. Being there for them means all the world to them because it helps them realize someone does care and that they are being heard! My guys have a long road to go but I have faith in my son not mention I know things will get better and be less stressful on the both of them.

Using the drippings and oil/butter left in pan, saute the onion, shallots, bell pepper, and mushrooms till tender. (Note:  If the butter/oil mixture seems to be over brown, you could drain off most of it and add fresh butter and allow pan to heat up the butter again and then add the vegetables)

Stir-Fried Vegetables

When vegetables have reached being tender, Add dry white wine, let it cook till most of the alcohol has cooked out (there should be a brown liquid with the vegetables at this stage)

Chicken

and then add the chicken stock to the pan. Bring to a boil.  Test for taste, add salt if needed.

Chicken

Return all chicken legs to the pan, cover with a lid and cook on medium heat till meat starts pulling from the bone.
While the chicken is simmering, add 2 cups of water to a 2 quart pot.  Bring to boil.  Add 1 cup rice.  DO NOT STIR!  When water returns to boiling, turn heat down to lowest simmering setting, cover with a bamboo sheet and then the lid or use chopsticks to keep the lid slightly open.  Let it cook till all water has been soaked up.  Check it about 15 minutes in to see if water has left pot.
In mean time, steam the broccoli.

My blog is definitely going to be a place where I can write about different subjects. Some subjects will make others uncomfortable probably. Sometimes that is what has to happen. It’s like making a quilt that is controversial and it might make people uncomfortable. As I’ve aged, I have realized that this has to be done because it could help someone in the future or it could help the person get their voice heard. There are many good reasons to do this. It’s a trouble that some would term “Good Trouble.” A lot has gone on in my life for sure.

So back to writing about the channel. When I uploaded that first video, it made me feel accomplished. It wasn’t much and it was a video of Greenland not something quilt related but that was a start. My channel is going to vary in so many ways I think. I have so much that I want to share while working towards getting good at making videos for quilters and for learning too. At the same time I get to also talk about some history relating to the town we live in and there is such a rich culture here to share that I can’t help but want to share it.

So stay tuned, there will be videos that will hopefully pique the interest of many. As I gain more dexterity with the technology my video making and editing should improve with it. Right now I have no idea what I’m doing. I’m creating as I move forward. I am so blessed to have met such a wonderful group of supportive people in the quilt making community. All of you have been so kind, supportive, understanding and patient. You help to lift up new creators as they learn to get a channel started and if it weren’t for all of you my channel would not be where it is today. Yes, I have been making videos and learning how to talk and interview and learn how to share in a way that person can learn from what I’m sharing. But it’s all of the viewer who are making my channel grow! All of you viewers are the backbone to every channel creator out there! If it were for you, our channels would go nowhere and I have to give gratitude where it’s due!

Thank you so much for helping my channel reach that 1,000 mark. I posted my first video at the beginning of June 2023. Hitting a 1,000 milestone in five months is something exceptionally awesome and I appreciate every last one of you who have contributed to getting me there. My channel hit a second milestone two days ago. I’m halfway to full monetization of the channel. When I started this channel that wasn’t even in my rear or front window and look what has happened. I really hope I can get my channel to a place where it stays interesting and everyone who watches the videos enjoy them.

Thank you so much for all that you have done on my behalf. I just hope that I can inspire some of you in the process!

Cotton Cuts “Village Green” Puzzle Mystery QAL Spring 2023

Cotton Cuts "Village Green" Team Begonia

Michelle Money – Team Begonia
“I chose the color wheel because I love batiks. The colors are more vibrant in person. I enjoyed getting a clue every month and that it did not take a long time. Instructions were outstanding!”

Martha’s Creative Life – Team Poppy
“I finished hubby’s Village Green Small Poppy quilt top from Cotton Cuts this weekend! Perfect timing to give it to him as a Veterans Day gift! He absolutely is in love with it too!
I am so happy! ❤️💙❤️💙”

Village Green - Team Poppy
Village Green - Team Peony

Lisa Turner – Team Peony
“I love it! These are colors I love even though this quilt currently doesn’t have a home. I love making mystery quilts! I have made maybe six. It’s the best of all worlds! I don’t have to worry about cutting accurately. There are so many wonderful color choices and it’s just a fun surprise when you put it together! I don’t worry about getting behind. With one clue a month or even two if I’ve ordered extra, I can just work on it one or 2 afternoons in a week and get caught up. The pieces go together so nicely and with the measurements for each piece given, it all fits together so nicely! So much fun!”

Courtney Pyrch – Team Corn Flower
“I chose the large Cornflower colorway, with extra borders. My favorite color is blue, and I lean toward solid colors, so this was the perfect colorway for me!”

Cotton Cuts Village Greenland - Team Corn Flower
Village Green - Spring 2023 - Team Lavender

Sandee Plocharczyk Team Lavender “I just completed Village Green, which was so much fun. This is my first BOM. The directions were fabulous and easy to follow. I’m a fairly new quilter and feel needy many times, but this is the first time I did a quilt without asking anybody. So excited!! Thanks Cotton Cuts!”

Theresa Sovar Higgins – Team Bluebell
“I chose the bluebell colorway for my daughter whose favorite color is blue. The quilt is striking with the contrasting lights and darks. Cotton Cuts mystery quilts are fun to make because the pieces are precut, it’s exciting waiting for the clues and final reveal. I’ve gifted 5 quilts to family who love the quilts.”

Theresa Sovar Higgins – Team Daffodil
“I chose the Daffodil colorway because it was my husbands favorite flower and my favorite animal which is a bear. It will be gifted to my granddaughter Clara who is nicknamed Beara.”

Bryanna Shindler – Team Aster
“This was my first PMQ. And loved it so much I have 3 Carnivals going! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Jennifer Reck-Allen – Team Daffodil
“Finished piecing my small Daffodil Village Green PMQ. My SIL picked the colors not knowing this will be her Christmas gift. The colors are a bit blown out because the sun was shining through it. It is at the LAQ currently. This is my second round with a PMQ. I plan to do the next offering.”

Tony Miller – Team Peony
The Village Green was my first PMQ. I chose the Peony color way because I loved the rustic, calming and muted colors of the fabric line. Peony’s are my Sister Laura’s favorite flowers, so it also reminds me of her. I don’t have a great picture of it finished as it was just up on my makeshift design wall. It is now off to the longarm to get a sweet flower pattern quilted on it.

Sean Ironmonger of “The Guy Who Sew” – Team Lavender
Sean is a Cotton Cuts Ambassador. He enjoyed making PMQ tutorials.

Lindsey Endris – Team Hollyhock
“I chose the hollyhock colorway because I loved the reds and floral. Red was not a color I tend to use in quilts, so I figured it would be a good change for me.”

Village Green - Spring 2023 - Team Hollyhock
Village Green - Spring 2023 - Team Cornflower

Delene Bryant – Team Cornflower
“I really liked the color wheel on this and the fabric pattern. I’m new to quilting, so I’m doing these PMQ’s for the experience before I dive into cutting my own pieces. I am enjoying the mystery part, it is fun to try to guess how the final piece will work together.”

Kathy Davidson Gatti – Team Daffodil
“I have completed my Village Green Daffodil quilt top, Small. I love it, and the extra borders make it just big enough. I am getting my backing prepared tonight and will be ready to take to my quilters next week. I love this colorway. The bears and little girl are simply adorable.”

Village Green - Spring 2023 - Team Daffodil
Village Green - Spring 2023 - Team BlueBell

Phillipa Perlin – Team Bluebell
Village Green was my first PMQ, I chose Bluebell. I loved the William Morris fabric particularly the blues. I was part of the Sleigh Arts/Stephanie Stitches Group joining in on the monthly zoom sew a longs. It was so much fun sewing with friends

Marie Singer – Team Daffodil
“My Village Green large top, with extra (customized) borders, with my Ladybug cat.”

Village Green - Team Daffodil
Village Green - Team Marigold

Debbie Dahlen DeLeeuw – Team Marigold
“Finally done! I wasn’t too sure about the background fabric choice on this one, but it really does blend together nicely and the picture doesn’t do it justice. Now that this is completed, I can put Village Green aside and do all the other things. Lots of projects sitting around and sewing machine went away until I finished some things🥳🥳 This is my third mystery quilt. Honestly, I chose those colors because it’s really the least likely color that I would normally choose and I wanted to do something different.. I have been quilting off and on for years and my quilting is basically sewing squares together, so doing the mystery quilts reveals a design and not just squares. So together this has really boosted my confidence on what I can do.😎”

Gwen Brown – Team Begonia
“Finished my “Village Green” Begonia. I am so in love with this quilt that I’m keeping it for myself.”

Village Green - Team Begonia
Village Green - Team Hollyhock

Lisa Hennesy Alexander – Team Hollyhock
“I love it! I had no specific reason for this colorway other than I think that it is beautiful. I absolutely loved the process that Cotton Cuts does in regards to the pieces already being cut for me!!! That’s the best! I love the process of it being a mystery. Also, I was very pleased with the end result!”

Jeanne Stone Boe – Team Bluebell
“I picked this colorway because I love blues and greys. I really enjoyed getting the envelope in the mail each month. The process was very easy since I didn’t have to cut any pieces, just sew. As the months went on I got better at getting the pieces put together so that they were the correct size. I’m still struggling with consistent seam allowances. My only problem really was when I went to put all the clues together at the end, the seam allowances only nested 60% of the time even though I followed the pressing instructions all along. So, I had to flip some seam allowances so they went together better.”

Village Green - Team Dallia

Marie Singer – Team Dahlia
“My beautiful Dahlia is back from the quilter.”

Village Green - Team Cornflower

Heather Bennett Ohye – Team Cornflower
“This is my third PMQ. Gretta Soble got me hooked. I have gained more patience doing these each month. Not to rush the process. I’m always interested in the finished project and can’t wait to see it done. But now I take my time. Get the points right, press those seams, etc. I chose this color way cause it looks like batiks. And green and blue are my favorite. I also wasn’t sure I liked the colors for the first few months as I have a lighting issue in my sewing area and had trouble w the light fabrics blending together. I love it now though!”

Ann Hedge Upchurch – Team Hollyhock
“My granddaughters picked it for me cause I couldn’t decide from all the choices. Enjoyed working with the colors as I sewed and the material was easier to sew after I starched. Was not able to really see the pattern until about clue 8-9 and then when all started to come together I really liked it more and more .. I love the finished top with extra borders. This colorway and little flowers are out of my normal choice range but I will do again. It turned out better than I thought.”

Village Green - Team Hollyhock
Village Green - Team Bluebell

Sophie Boudreau – Team Bluebell
“I love it so much!!! Thanks Cotton Cuts and Sheila Christensen (Quilt Designer) for putting together such a fabulous quilt.”

Katie Kulhanek – Team Tulip
“I usually make quilts with lots of color but this time I wanted a classic look and do something a little different than my normal. I love the design. It’s a very classic quilt design that also has some modern edge to it.”

Village Green - Team Tulip
Village Green - Team Bluebell

Ruth Krainik – Team Bluebell
“So excited to finish the large Village Green in the Bluebell color way! It looks much more beautiful in person but still is so lovely! Thank you Cotton Cuts! So pretty?

Te Rie – Team Sweet William
“Love making this and looking forward to doing the next puzzle mystery quilt, “Tree of Life.”

Villiage Green - Team Sweet William
Village Green - Team Sweet William

Elizabeth Anne Gude – Team Sweet William
“Loving my finished Large Sweet William Village Green. Those colors and textures are delicious. I cannot wait to load it on the frame and get it quilted and ready for snuggles!! Who’s signing up for the “Tree of Life” Puzzle Mystery Case?

Rachel Hannah – Team Bluebell
Blues are my weakness when it comes to color. I had a hard time choosing between this colorway or the Hollyhock. I ultimately chose the blue because I decided it was for me and not for someone else. I have given away at least half of the PMQs I have done over the years to family. I really enjoy the PMQ because the sections are all a workable size. Even if I get behind I can do more than one on a weekend and catch up. I also work full time and knowing that a monthly section takes about an hour and no more than two makes the process workable when you are limited on free time. I have learned that doing more than one at once is a real challenge! I have so much on my plate that I have to start limiting myself. Also when the quilt is done; I usually think that if I had seen the final pattern first I never would have chosen it because I would have thought it was too complicated. I think this is my 6th or 7th PMQ. No two are alike and they are all beautiful!

Cotton Cuts Puzzle Mystery QAL - Village Green - Team Lavender

Ruth Bangert Ward – Village Green “Team Lavender”
“I love all things purple and thoroughly enjoyed the PMQ process. It was so fun to get the packages and just sIt down to sew. Learned that is is helpful to label each completed block for easier final assembly.”

Joanne Yvon Team Cornflower
“I choose this colorway because it reminds me of tranquility and serenity-basically calming colors. Good for de-stressing. I love the cotton cuts PMQs because they come pre-cut (cutting yardage is something i don’t really enjoy. I don’t mind sub-cut so much -hello precuts which is most of my stash). I learned i am a carefree quilter – which means most of the time close is good enough for me. I’m not one to pick part too much (nothing wrong with that just not the way I roll); unless I really screwed the pooch.”

Village Green - Team Coirnflower
Village Green - Team Begonia

Elaine O’Connell = Team Begonia
“I loved the batik, first of all, which led me to these colors. I think their choice of greens, blues and sort of a peachy color work well together. I have made several of their mystery quilts, so can’t say I learned any thing in particular about myself, other than that I enjoy having the cutting done, so that I can focus on the piecing. This choice was one of my favorites.”

Dianne Harries – Team Marigold
“One of my least likely colour ways and I love the process of the mystery and I actually like the end result with the choice of colors.”

Village Green - Team Marigold
Village Green - Team Bluebell

Bonnie Shuey Hanes – Team Bluebell
“I really enjoy the mystery of the whole process. As far as choosing the color way, I don’t have anything other than just what I like at the time. I will say, this is probably the one I like the most. I have been sewing for well over 50 years and enjoy watching projects come together. My mother was a quilter and so I think it’s just in my dna.😁”

Bobbie Moore – Team Hollyhock
“I wanted something for myself and not purple again. I like the mystery and the monthly puzzle piecing that is not simply a traditional block. I learned that with mystery quilts you have to be patient and let the process work. The results are usually worth it.”

Village Green - Team Hollyhock
Village Green - Team Begonia

Christine Hammer McHenry – Team Begonia
“I picked the colorway because I loved the seahorse, turtle print and the orange/blue-green combo. I liked the process ok, mostly because the monthly clues were manageable in my busy life. I will say that I prefer the new prepay of getting all clue fabric at once. Gives me a box to keep it all in. I had one clue that was less fabric, and the replacement process was smooth. This might be addictive. Lol”

Carol Wendler – Team Dahlia
“This one is number 5 I think. I chose this colorway because I loved the owls. The PMQ is great because it breaks the quilt down into easily managed parts and keeps me on track! I learned that I need to pay closer attention to my points. Thank you!”

Village Green - Team Dahlia
Village Green - Hollyhock

Lindsey Endris – Team Hollyhock
“I chose this colorway because i thought the fabrics were gorgeous and it was also a colorway I had never done before. This was probably my 3rd or 4th one. My first pmq was “Sew Sweet”.”

Laura Tilton – Team Cornflower
“Finally finished piecing my Village Green Large Cornflower. If you see mistakes, I don’t want to hear it! 😉 🙂 This was my 7th PMQ. I was really drawn to the colors. Very pretty.”

“I wanted something bright the day I picked my colour way. I enjoyed the mystery quilt process that I have 2 more on the go. One other one needs to be sewn together. It is a larger quilt. So overall I have 4 in total. Built up my confidence.”

Kathy Davidson Gatti – Team Daffodil
“Hooray I just finished sewing the binding and the label on. My VILLAGE GREEN Daffodil with extra borders is now complete. I love that fabric backing was available for purchase. I adore it. I couldn’t be happier with the finished quilt.”

“I’m glad I picked the black and white colors. I love the way it came out. I hope we have more quilts in these colors coming in two tone colors.  I picked this because I wanted these colors it was a very enjoyable processI did make a couple of mistakes but decided to leave them there.”

Maridee Mueller Hargis – Team Sweet William
“I’m always drawn to green. I like getting the envelope and being able to start sewing right away – no cutting first. I’m also able to just let the mystery unfold. I don’t try to solve it on my own. It’s like watching a movie with my husband, he is constantly trying to predict the next scene. When he asks what I think, “I prefer to let it unfold.” 45 years of this conversation. He’s lucky I have a LOT of patience.”
