Celebrating A Year Of 2024

Greenland Quilter NY Eve Live Graphic

I can hardly believe that 2024 is almost upon us! Time really does seem to fly by, doesn’t it? As the year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on all the wonderful experiences we’ve had. It’s a natural tendency, I suppose, to ponder what each year brings as we embrace new beginnings. This blog will mainly focus on my exciting journey with my YouTube Channel over the past year, especially as we prepare for our 12-hour live event. My channel is now 17 months old, and looking back, I realize how far I’ve come. At first, I had modest expectations and many apprehensions about my progress. It took me a while to muster the courage to dive in, but overcoming that initial fear has been a rewarding experience. Starting something new can certainly feel daunting, but it’s amazing how much you can learn along the way.

Initially, I was uncertain about the channel’s direction, but I knew I wanted to share my life in beautiful Greenland, along with my cherished “Heart Light,” Nikolaj, and my passion for creating stunning quilts. I also have a deep love for gardening, cooking, photography, and, above all, showcasing the breathtaking beauty of Greenland. I prefer to keep everything in one channel because I believe it captures the essence of my life here beautifully! Living in Greenland has inspired me to create quilts, nurturing my skills, along with expressing my passion for photography. I’ve been capturing moments since my teenage years, and now, it’s all about the stunning landscapes, icebergs, and the enchanting icecap and nature that surrounds me.

But now I have a YouTube channel, and making videos has become an exciting part of my life! My biggest hope is to share my love for Greenland and my passion for vibrant colors. Oh, how I adore color these days! I dream of creating things that are bold and bursting with brightness! I didn’t think much about it when I was in Florida, but perhaps that’s because my garden was already a colorful expression of myself. Now, living in the Arctic, I find new ways to channel that creativity.

The beauty of Greenland is overflowing with colors! The Northern Lights, stunning sunrises, and breathtaking sunsets bring splashes of color, while spring and summer showcase flowers in every hue imaginable! The icebergs and the water in the fjords shift from deep blue to brilliant turquoise. This country is so stunning, and I’m inspired to articulate that beauty! This inspiration has led me to create colorful quilts with batiks, and while I know not everyone may appreciate them, I wish they would! Our world truly needs bright, cheerful colors, positive attitudes, kindness, and smiling faces!

So let me move on to the main discussion. Down below is information that you will want to know about the 12 hour live. During the twelve hour live we will be doing a few different activities. One of them will be the giveaways. There are rules concerning the giveaways so that way I can keep the stress out of it. I will be posting below the hours the channel will be live along with how often I will be doing prize drawings as well. I am going to be offering a small sewing project that will relate to the a free block pattern from Moda Blockheads 3. The pattern name is the “Love Block” which was created by Zen Chic. The pattern is free and you will find the link down below for that. My idea is to create the block and embellish it with some design quilt piecing around it to make a mini wall hanging quilt. Viewers are welcome to download the pattern and gather up some fabric and jump in to sew the block. Since I’ll be on the live the whole 12 hours, I will be sewing a lot. I’ll be working on the love project as well as other sewing projects that I would like to get caught up on as well!

I hope that y’all will come and sit with me during the live. It will be fun sewing and chatting and celebrating. Bring whatever drinking you want to bring too because I’m fine with that too! 🙂 🙂 Thank you ahead of time for joining in on the fun!

Fundraiser

Do you like to help those in need? Down below is some links for a Single dad who is raising his 8 year old son. They’ve been struggling for awhile but things are improving thanks to the many who have stepped up to help. Christmas is approaching so there is still a need relating to that too. So if you’re feeling generous and want to help, there are links down below to help. I will be adding a couple of more wish list due to the prices being cheaper on some items.

My name is Katy and I have been living in South Greenland since August 2011. I was born in Charleston, South Carolina, raised in Florida, and migrated to South Greenland through marriage. I am married to an amazing Greenlandic man living 60º N - about 670 km south of the Arctic Circle. I am a master gardener of 50 years. I started my love of ornamental gardening at the young age of 11. My paternal aunt gave me my first cutting and told me how to plant it. She also showed me some simple crochet stitches and sent me home with a cutting of coleus and a crochet hook with some yarn. At eleven it was like taking home a prize. Little did I know what would happen because of that. I learned how to sew my own clothing during my teenage years and that sewing has flowed over into me learning how to be a quilt maker. I love to take photographs of everything that catches my eye. I have thousands of photos. I am in love with icebergs. I don't think I will ever tire of seeing them and taking photos of them. The Greenland landscape is magnificent and it never disappoints. I also love to crochet as well as cook. I love making up my own recipes and serving them up to my "Heart Light" for test tasting. He is such a trooper. For the most part, he loves everything I've made. I'm a summer tourist guide and love it when fellow Americans come to visit us so that I can tell them about Greenland and most of the time I always tell our story since it's so special. I have 3 adult children and 4 grandchildren. I have grown to love Greenland as much as I love my home country USA. Greenland is like no other place and I will write lots about it and share photographs as well. I also love music and movies as well and I like to read. I will also be sharing blogs about quilt-making and other subjects that I'm involved with.
